About us

The Women Lawyers Group Middle East is based on the recognition of the direct need for a forum for the exchange of knowledge, experience and initiatives of women in the legal sphere as well as for enhancing the professional development of women in the legal field, thereby leading to the betterment of society and the sustainable development of economies in the Middle East.

The Group will provide social networking opportunities, host and organize functions and events relevant to the legal profession, address issues of concern to women working in the legal field, arrange and offer career development opportunities, as well as work on improving the status of women in the Middle East including promotion of gender equality.

The three founding members are dynamic ladies who hail from the MENA/GCC region, and are professionally qualified international lawyers with long standing experience in various areas of the law, as well as an active commitment to social and business issues in the Middle East and North Africa.

 

Raya Abu Gulal,

She was born in Baghdad, grew up between the Netherlands and the UK, educated in both countries.
Raya is currently based in the UAE and running her own legal consultancy providing legal advice specializing in the Middle East. Her practice covers a broad range of corporate and commercial work. Prior to joining to setting up her legal consultancy, Raya worked for two leading International Law Firms.


Raya is an international public speaker, active in various women development initiatives in the MENA region and member of various business groups.
Raya founded the Women Lawyers Group-Middle East, also a board member of the International Women Business Group (Abu Dhabi). Furthermore, Raya was awarded by MEA Markets as a Female Legal Consultant for 2017. Raya received in 2017 the legal award for the Arab Women Awards-UAE.


Fatima Ghalib,

A graduate of the University of Oxford in Jurisprudence and a solicitor of England and Wales, specialises in corporate/commercial law, private equity and investment funds. She has worked as legal counsel for major sovereign wealth funds, as a lawyer at leading magic circle firms and has advised various international companies, businesses and individuals on a wide range of multi jurisdictional matters. She has extensive pro bono initiatives for which she is responsible including being the trustee of a British registered charity which was awarded a MBE by HRH Queen Elizabeth II. The wealth of cross border knowledge and cultural expertise which Fatima brings to her projects is reflective of her international upbringing and education in the Middle East and Europe/ the US.


Najwa Attiga,

A graduate of Columbia University in New York, she is a seasoned, results-oriented, Arab American, senior US qualified attorney who has multinational and multifaceted academic and career experiences. Throughout her diverse senior positions in the USA, MENA and the GCC, she has gained extensive experience in the legal profession. She specializes in corporate/commercial law, Private Equity and Investment Funds, in addition to Compliance and Corporate Governance. She has established and managed multiple legal departments and teams over the past twenty years. As a member of the C-Suite in various public and private organizations, including Sovereign Wealth Funds in the GCC, She is recognized as a trusted partner and strategic advisor. Najwa is a member of the Advisory Board of Consult and Coach for a Cause (C3), a UAE based social enterprise advising entrepreneurs in the Middle East, a professional partner and mentor, the African Entrepreneurship Award, as well as a member of the Arab International Women Forum in London.
